Visiting the Doctor

A cartoon child visiting the doctor.

Visiting the Doctor is a great game to prepare your child for the new faces and places of their new medical team. Select a furry Muppet friend to explore the ways that they can prepare for a doctor’s visit by selecting comfort items, playing in the office and meeting their new provider. As your child plays, ask ‘What favorite toy will help you get ready to see the doctor?’ ‘I wonder if some of the things in your old doctor’s office will be in your new doctor’s office?’, and ‘What is one special thing you’d like to tell the doctor about yourself?’

Braving a New World

As you help your child plan to meet their new health team, anticipate big emotions your child may have, and think of creative ways to affirm their feelings while reminding them of their resilience.

When a child… You can say…
Selects a comfort item to take on their visit… I like how you’re thinking about the things that will make you comfortable.
Shares thoughts about the upcoming appointment… It’s ok to have big feelings. I’ll be here!
Talks about meeting their new medical team… I’m proud of how brave you were when you met your new doctor!
Waits for prescriptions to be filled… You’re being very patient as we wait for our medicine to be ready.

Together with you, their new medical team, and Visiting the Doctor, a child can connect with a medical team in a new setting with confidence and excitement!
